Laser Sailing

The Laser dinghy is the premiere singlehanded boat for sailors after graduating the Optimist class. Lasers are raced at the regional, national, and world-level. High School and College Sailing utilize the Laser for all singlehanded racing. In Southern California, the SCYYRA dedicates the annual Ullman/Frost Series to racing Lasers.

SBYSF Laser Program

The SBYSF Laser Program is designed for sailors looking to race singlehanded dinghies.  It is intended for sailors who have graduated from Optimists or other small boats and are 8th grade level students through seniors in high school. SBYSF offers a variety of training options throughout the year. During the school year, we offer Monday after school Laser practices. Additionally, we run high-performance clinics during school breaks and occasional weekends. During the Summer, our Laser sailors enjoy daily Laser training.

The Laser/ILCA Dinghy

The Laser has been the singlehanded boat of choice for the Youth Worlds, College Sailing, and the Olympics for over 30 years. Countless world-class sailors began their careers racing in the Laser. Today, the Laser is actively raced all over the world with over 210,000 boats manufactured to date. It is one of the largest one-design racing classes. Sailors can choose the size of the sail based on size and weight: 4.7, Radial, and Standard rigs are all available.
