2026 Gaucho Regatta

2026 Gaucho Regatta

There’s nothing quite like a Chamber of Commerce weekend here in Santa Barbara. The 2026 Gaucho High School Regatta was just that. Sunny skies, temperature in the high 70’s and wind in the 8-14 knot range. The Gaucho Regatta is the last of the five regular season Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association (PCISA) events before we enter the championship post-season. The event is hosted by a combined effort of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club, SBYSF, and the UCSB Sailing Team. This year over sixty teams from up and down California were in attendance to compete. SBYSF was happy to have five total teams in the regatta representing SBHS, SMHS, and DPHS

Racing on both days offered champagne conditions. Saturday had breeze shifting between southwest and northwest which made for heads-up tactical racing. Strong current was also running in conjunction with the recent full moon. Six races were completed in A-Division while B-division ended with four.

Sunday was a classic Santa Barbara racing day. Warm weather and a perfect 10-14 knot sea breeze. Sunday certainly has us thinking about Summer! Sailors greeted the time change with an early sea breeze and racing began on time at 1030. An additional four A-Division and six B-Division races were completed bring the race count total to ten per division.

Congratulations to a strong performance by San Marcos High School, placing fifth overall and second place in B-Division. DPHS finished 15th, SMHS2 18th, SBHS 24th, and DPHS2 25th.

We look forward to a strong month of practice prior to the Pacific Coast Championship.
